अगर आप फर्न का एक पौधा
रख दें किसी पत्थर के नीचे
तो अगले ही दिन हो जाएगा यह
तक़रीबन ग़ायब
गोया पत्थर निगल गया हो उसे ।

अगर आप दबाएँ रखें किसी महबूब का नाम
बिना उचारे अपनी ज़ुबान के नीचे
यह बन जाता है ख़ून
उफ़्फ़
वो हल्की खींची गई साँस
पोशीदा
आपके लफ़्ज़ों के नीचे ।

कोई कहाँ देख पाता है
वह ख़ुराक जो पोसती है आपको ।

swallowed it.

If you tuck the name of a loved one
under your tongue too long
without speaking it
it becomes blood
sigh
the little sucked-in breath of air
hiding everywhere
beneath your words.

No one sees
the fuel that feeds you.
