लड़की काँच से बनी हुई थी
और लड़का मांस का ।
लड़की ने लड़के की ओर देखा
और काँच ने माँस से कहा
मुझे सालम का सालम निगल जा ।
लड़के ने अपनी बड़ी आँत और छोटे हाजमे
के बारे में सोचा

लड़की फिर बोली
डरपोक
कम से कम मुझे शो केस से मुक्त तो कर
सड़क पर रखकर तोड़ दे ।
पाँव ने चमड़ी के नाज़ुक होने के बारे में सोचा
लड़की फिर बोली
यदि सोचना हो तो घर जाकर सोच
सड़क पर तुम्हारा क्या काम ?
मैं तो शो केस में ही बोलती रहूँगी
काँच की लड़की शो केस में बोलती रही
लड़का मांस का, सड़क पर खड़ा सोचता रहा।

              Show-Case

A girl all crystal
A boy all flesh.
In the show-case though,
she was talking
he was rooted on the road, brooding.

The girl raised her eyes to the boy.
and the crystal spoke :
        "Swallow me, my whole being, gulp."
The boy, his hunger deep and long,
Reflected
On his poor digestion.

The girl snapped :
       "Coward ! can't you free me from the show-case ?
         Put me on the road, crush me."

The boy mused.
His delicate feet might bleed.
She growled :
        "Must you think...
         Go home and think.
          You on the road ? What business
          In the show-case though, I will continue talking."
