अगर तुम रखते हो एक फ़र्न का एक पौधा
एक पत्थर के नीचे
अगले ही दिन वो हो जाएगा
लगभग ग़ायब
जैसे पत्थर
उसे लील गया हो ।
अगर तुम दबाए रखते हो
किसी माशूक़ का नाम, बिन बोले
ज़ुबान के नीचे, बहोत देर तक
तो बन जाता ख़ून ये
वो हवा से खींच ली गई साँस
पोशीदा है
तुम्हारे लफ़्ज़ों के नीचे ।
कोई कहा देख पाता है
उस ख़ुराक़ को जो तुम्हें ज़िन्दा रखती है ।

If you place a fern
under a stone
the next day it will be
nearly invisible
as if the stone has
swallowed it.
If you tuck the name of a loved one
under your tongue too long
without speaking it
it becomes blood
sigh
the little sucked-in breath of air
hiding everywhere
beneath your words.
No one sees
the fuel that feeds you.
