‘‘इतने लम्बे समय के
इन्तज़ार के बाद भी
मुझे शर्म आती है तुमसे पूछने में :
तुम मुझसे निकाह क्यूँ नहीं कर लेते ?’’

और सूरज
जो था महज़ एक तारा
उसने जवाब दिया :

‘‘इतने साल तुमसे छुपते हुए
मैं तुम्हें बताना नहीं चाहता
कि मुझमें हिम्मत नहीं है ।’’

On a simple sheet of paper,
the moon sent these simple lines
to the sun's house:
‘After all these years
of waiting for you,
I feel too shy to ask:
Why don't you marry me?'
And the sun, by way of
one of the stars, replied:
‘After all these years
of hiding from you,
I don't want to tell you:
I don't dare.'
