मुझे अच्छा खाने का शौक़ था
पर मैं जानता हूँ मुझे जीवन भर क्या खाना नसीब हुआ
जो था उसे कितना श्रेष्ठ और परिपूर्ण बताया
मगर मलाल किस बात का
आख़िर उसी पर इतने दिन जीवित रहा
कोसी क्षेत्र के सुदूर गाँवों की यात्रा की
कुपोषितों, अल्पपोषितों की डूबती हुई आवाज़ सुनी
भूख से मरते हुए लोगों को देखा
भेड़ियों के मुँह में देश को जाते हुए देखा

Was fond of good food
But whatever came my way through the years
I called it splendid, wholesome
No reason to regret this
After all I survived on it
Travelled to the villages deep in the Kosi region
Listened to the sinking voices of the hungry and the malnourished
Saw people dying of starvation
Saw the country being devoured by wolves
