भूत / मंगलेश डबराल
यह ऐसा भूत है जो देवता बनते-बनते रह गया
जब भी भूत देवता बनने को होते हैं यह पिछड़ जाता है
हमेशा का फिसड्डी
जब यह मनुष्य था तब भी ऐसा ही था
बचपन में कक्षा में इसे सबसे पीछे बिठाया जाता था
कई बार फेल भी हुआ
स्कूल में सेब और नाशपाती लाता
अध्यापकों की आँख बचाकर उन्हें बेचता
और शाम को उस पैसे से घर के लिए राशन ले जाता
इसे बीड़ी-सिगरेट की लत लग भी गयी
एक दिन पिता ने इसका स्कूल छुडवा दिया
मृत्यु होने पर खबर तभी लगी जब यह भूत बन गया
अब यह यहाँ रहता है
एक चबूतरे पर पीपल और शुरू के पेड़ों के नीचे
वहां जहाँ से गाँव दिखने की शुरुआत होती है
बुरी आदतों वाले इस भूत को सब जानते हैं
यहाँ से गुजरने वाले थक कर जब यहाँ बैठते हैं
तो इसके लिए बीड़ी-सिगरेट
और अगर हो तो शराब की कुछ बूँदें भी छोड़ देते हैं
अगर नहीं छोड़ें तो यह नुकसान कर सकता है
इसकी अनदेखी करने पर किसको क्या भुगतना पड़ा
इसके कई किस्से प्रचलित हैं
हालांकि इसकी नुकसान पहुंचाने की ताक़त
देवताओं के मुकाबले बहुत कम है.

GHOST
This ghost just couldn’t become a deity
Each time ghosts are up for promotion this one misses out
An old laggard
Was no different when he was human
In the school he sat on the last bench
Failed the exams several times
He would bring apples and pears
And sell them when teachers were not looking
To buy in the evening rations for the family
He picked up the smoking habit
At some point his father withdrew him from school
Only after he became a ghost people realised he had died
Now he lives here
On a platform under the pipal tree and the cacti
The spot from where the village first comes into view
Everyone knows this ghost and his bad habits
Passers by stopping here to rest
Leave a bidi or a cigarette
And sometimes few drops of alcohol
Not doing so could invite trouble
There are several stories about people
Who ignored this and came to harm
Although his power to cause harm
Is nothing compared to what deities can do
